I feel encouraged by people in the blog community being so nice to each other. Like here. And here. And here. It’s awesome.
I can’t believe I haven’t mentioned this, but on one particularly bad day, during my lunch hour, the following showed up at my house via UPS:
Artemisia had read my complaints about the death of my ironing board in the flood, my stupid inability to remember to buy a replacement, and my ridiculous ironing-on-our-tiny-kitchen-counter. HERE. On my BLOG. She secretively sent me this fancy and cute replacement. It has green pansies, a special place for the iron, and a SHELF UNDERNEATH TO HOLD THINGS. When it arrived, I laughed, and I laughed all the way back to work, because it made me feel happy. She saw something on my blog! Isn’t that funny and nice and clever?
Also, Swistle sent me a care package of fudge and tea after Alex died. It arrived during the flooding. I visited that bag of fudge again and again during the filthy clean up process, and it was a big morale booster. Jut doesn’t like chocolate, so it was my own personal bag of fudgy motivation, and it’s sort of pathetic how much it helped. Freaked out by flooding? Eat a piece of fudge! Need to bleach your floor? Half your art work gone? Couch molding out on your front lawn? Just have a piece of fudge! It won’t matter, because friendly fudge? Fudge is good.
And then, this lady (WHO DOESN’T EVER UPDATE, but go look at her stuff here) sent me an e-gift certificate to an online art store, to help with replacing stuff from my studio. And offered to send me an easel. I’m using the certificate to get some printmaking stuff, because my old prints were some of the only things that survived the drenching. And that seemed important, somehow.
Shelly offered furniture.
(And, of course, there were the awesome things our relatives have done to help out.)
I think it’s interesting, and good. That all these bloggers are so nice. Faces behind screens, strangers reaching out to help each other, etc. It’s very good.
