Yesterday was one of the best birthdays I’ve ever had, despite it being a Monday Birthday. I had to leave the house at six-ish in the morning to make it to an appointment with a new therapist (they keep prodding me to TALK to someone, GEEZ). The last therapist I saw a grand total of two times. He asked me if my favorite artist is Thomas Kinkade, and later suggested I practice apathy regarding the election/the economy/poverty. But! The new therapist was AWESOME! Awesome. I felt like we clicked immediately, that she was listening to me and hearing me. And that she was very empathetic. Bonus: she had some photo postcards taped to the wall of fat ground hogs, baby ducks, and a tiny leaping monkey. I walked out of the office grinning, because I felt hopeful that maybe this is going to be a helpful experience. (Therapist is not to be confused with Psychiatrist, who is also AWESOME. I see Psychiatrist every few months for a quick med management appointment.)
After my appointment, I ran into a Target for a pair of cheap sunglasses. (I lost mine.) (Again.) (Shocking, right?) (MAN. Do you guys have Painful Issues when you are driving on sunny days? So much pain! So much blinding!) Thanks to Swistle, who always makes Target clearance sound magical, I poked around for a few minutes in the clearancy stuff, and found a cheap pen with whales on it. Whales!
Whales!
I drove back to my town, went to work. In the afternoon while quickly checking my email during a 15 minute lunch break, I found I had 17 or so birthday messages, which was cheerful. Later we had our standard little Work Snack Birthday Break. Coworkers brought fruit, nuts, and cheese, which was thoughtful (we usually have cake, cake, or cakey-type non-cakes).
When I got home, Jut had the cards and packages I’d received waiting on the couch, and he had just finished wrapping his in an ugly checked Christmas paper that I happen to LOVE. It was fun to open the cards all at once, and the hilarious/awesome gifts. We made dinner together (rather, I put some stuff in a pan, then called my brother to wish him a happy birthday, and left everything else to my husband) in our messy kitchen, and there were dogs and cats everywhere. We ate on the couch while we watched episodes of Space Ghost, and drank glasses of wine while Mary Tyler Moore was on. We had some sugar free “cake” I had attempted (not great, but not bad). I fell asleep on the couch in my pajamas, and half an hour later went to bed. No plan, no pressure birthdays are the way to go.
It was a good day.
Love,
black sheeped
PS. Are you guys watching this address? Doesn’t it feel like a clean, cool breeze?

Happy birthday! I’m so glad everything was good yesterday. And I’m thrilled your therapist seems to be a great one; it’s so important to have someone you can trust and believe in, trust me.
That whale pen sounds fantastic. A few years ago, I found a dolphin pen that’s also a lighter. A pen AND a lighter! (The lighter doesn’t actually work though.) But I still bought it.

Happy birthday! I’m so glad it was such a good one.
And yes. The address, and the president… it’s like being upgraded to the big table at family holidays after eight years too long at the kids’ table.

Wow, that does sound pretty fabulous- just a normal day with an abnormal amount of happy attention. Truely, I really love those kind of moments/days in life: when everyhting is just …. right.
Happy Birthday. I’m going to be looking for a whale pen. =)
